HOW TO MAKE PRANA CHAI
Hot Brew with Milk
Put 20 grams of Prana Chai into a pot. Add 300ml of your choice of milk (nuttier the better but feel free to experiment) If you like your chai on the sweet side add a teaspoon of honey at this stage or skip this step and stir slowly to simmer (65 degrees Celcius). Don’t boil. Take off the heat and strain into a cup. Enjoy.
Hot Brew - Black
Put 20 grams of Prana Chai into a pot. Add 300ml of water. If you like your chai on the sweet side add a teaspoon of honey at this stage or skip this step and stir slowly to simmer (65 degrees Celcius). Don’t boil. Take off the heat and strain into a cup. Enjoy.
Cold Brew
Keep a 1:10 ratio of chai:milk. Example 100grams of chai to 1 litre of milk. Combine the chai and cold milk in a flask. Close the lid and put the flask in the fridge. Allow 4-5 hours of slow extraction. Ideally overnight. Separate the liquor from the chai mix with the help of a strainer. Enjoy.
PRODUCT FAQ
How many calories in Prana Chai?
On its own - just a combination of black tea and herbs - chai has virtually no calories. A single serving of our Prana Chai Original Blend, for example, holds only about 25 calories, with a dash of honey.
It's only when you add additional sweeteners and milk into the mix that the calorie count increase substantially.
What is the agave blend? Is this vegan?
Yes!
Instead of honey, in our Vegan Blend Chai we use all natural agave, a syrup derived from a desert plant in the Americas.
How much caffeine is there in chai?
A warm cup of chai doesn't contain the same caffeine hit as a coffee (it generally has about a third of the amount of caffeine as a regular cup of joe).
Our Original Masala Chai is made with a mixture of spices and milk - and black tea, which naturally contains caffeine. Caffeine blocks certain chemicals in the brain that help promote sleep. Instead, you'll enjoy that pleasant energy buzz we all tend to associate with coffee.
Though chai does contain caffeine, its levels may not even be enough to disturb your sleep (unless you're highly sensitive). In fact, chai also contains tannin, which reduces the rate at which caffeine is absorbed into your system.
So instead of an intense burst of energy, you can expect a calm and relaxed but focused state.
What is the best way to make Prana Chai?
We recommend our stovetop method, but there are so many ways you can enjoy our chai! Check out some other ways (with video guides!) here.
1. Grab a quality Turkish teapot or small saucepan (preferably with a spout).
2. Toss two heaped teaspoons (that's 20-25g) of your favourite Prana Chai blend into the pot.
3. Add any extra sweetener to taste (we love to stick with honey)
4. Pour in your preferred milk - soy milk and almond milk make great alternatives to dairy options.
5. Pop the teapot on the stove and heat to a good temperature - but don't let it boil out the leaves and spices.
6. Heat until hot or close to simmering. It can take two to three minutes. Put aside and wait till the leaves open in the pot. Leave it any longer and your brew may be stronger and bitter.
7. Strain the brew into a mug or a fresh teapot if you're sharing with friends.
Is chai good for weight loss?
The base of chai is black tea, which is full of antioxidants and is said to remove free radicals and decrease cell damage.
In terms of weight loss, black tea has flavonoids, and types of antioxidants called theaflavins and thearubigins.
Research findings have suggested that the number of calories burned significantly increased after consuming theaflavins.
Black tea also contains 30-80mg of caffeine, which is known to boost metabolism.
All we can say for sure is that it is delicious and good for you, too!
Does Prana Chai have gluten in it?
Rest assured, our Prana Chai blends are safe for those who adhere to a gluten-free diet. Our Original Masala Blend is prepared in a safe environment and contains only natural spices, black tea, and a dash of honey.
While you might think all teas would be gluten-free, it's not always the case.
Traditional black tea comes from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Gluten content = zilch. So, tea bags or loose leaf blends "should" generally be gluten free.
But, not all teas are made from Camillia sinensis. Some are made from tea leaves that contain gluten or have added gluten ingredients. Some teas - herbal teas especially - contain barley malt as a sweetener, while others have roasted barley in the ingredients. Even the tea bags themselves can be a treacherous grey zone: some are sealed with a wheat paste!
Is sticky chai healthy?
Chai has been drunk for centuries to maintain good health and because it tastes so damn good. But as we learn more about this amazing combination of tea and aromatic spices, we learn more about its exact health benefits too.
Black tea is awash with good antioxidants.
Cinnamon contains manganese, dietary fiber, calcium, iron, and zinc and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat colds, nausea, diarrhoea and menstrual cramps.
Cardamom has a wealth of health benefits, most notably that it aids digestion and supports the immune system. It also has great antioxidant properties to help detoxify the body and improve blood circulation.
Ginger’s greatest claim to fame is as a remedy for nausea and a digestive aid. Moreover, ginger has gut-boosting properties, which bolster our defences against colds and other common viruses.
Although small in size, cloves pack in a lot of great benefits. They help digestion by relaxing the lining of the GI tract, thereby alleviating nausea, vomiting, gas and stomach aches, and are a natural painkiller and antibacterial.
Apart from tasting great, honey has so many unique qualities. The flavonoids it contains are antioxidants, which help reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease. Honey is also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, particularly useful to good skin health, and is probiotic.
With its all-natural ingredients, premium Australian honey, warming capabilities and delicious taste, a bag of Prana Chai can keep you feeling healthy and at your best. Read more about the health benefits of chai here.
What is loose leaf chai?
Masala chai is generally a mix of black tea with spices, milk, and a sweetener. The most common spices include cardamom (which gives chai its boldest, most fragrant tone), cinnamon, ginger, and cloves for a musky flavour.
With our Prana Chai Original Masala Blend, you'll find 100% black ceylon tea, cardamom, cinnamon to add sweetness and warmth, peppercorns for a bit of kick, ginger for fresh tanginess, star anise to add a dark licorice flavour, and 100% Australian Honey.

How do you calculate shipping cost and why is this not included in the price?
Shipping cost is determined by the weight, dimensions, and distance from our warehouse to the destination. Because of this, we can not estimate the shipping cost BEFORE you enter your postcode. To make it easier for you we offer free delivery for orders over $49. We are always working towards minimising the shipping cost but we also need to keep in mind that your pack is tracked at all times and the real-time tracking info is shared with you.
I want my pack to be left at a safe spot even if there is no one at home. How can I make sure of this?
You do not need to do anything, by default the delivery procedure is to leave the pack at a safe spot if there is no one at destination. If you want to personally receive the pack then please add this to your notes section at the checkout. We will then make sure your pack is signed off on delivery. In this case, if you are not home then the delivery driver might leave a notice in your mailbox and drop the pack in your local post office.
